Going once, going twice: Mam’Mkhize’s Royal AM finally on sale!
SHAUWN “Mam’Mkhize” Mkhize’s soccer club, Royal AM FC, is up for sale.
The South African Revenue Service’s (Sars) curator has opened the bidding process for the team based in Pietermaritzburg, KZN, known as Thwihli Thwahla.
Bidding process initiated by Sars curator
Prospective buyers must pay a refundable deposit of R1 million to the curator.
Offers to purchase the team must be submitted by 8am by Friday, 14 March, with a 1pm deadline the same day.
The new owner will be announced on Monday, 17 March.
All offers will be kept confidential.
Backstory: Mam’Mkhize’s troubles with Sars
This sale follows problems faced by the prominent businesswoman and TV reality star with the taxman.
Her issues began in 2024 when the KZN Local Division of the High Court issued a preservation order and search warrant in a case involving the Commissioner of Sars against Mam’Mkhize and others late 2023.

Sars placed her soccer team, which competes in the Betway Premiership, under curatorship.
This move is part of efforts to settle a R40 million debt.
Curator Jaco Venter oversees sale process
Jaco Venter of PBP Administrators has been appointed as the curator responsible for selling the club to recover debt owed to Sars.
Venter has confirmed to Daily Sun that the club is for sale.
“Yes, the club is on sale. Bidders can submit their offer as soon as possible,” he said.
Royal AM FC has been unable to participate in PSL soccer matches since being placed under the curatorship of Sars at the start of 2025.
The PSL’s executive committee suspended all the club’s matches until further notice in January due to their non-participation.
The club’s troubles have also affected the Nedbank Cup competition.
Royal AM FC failed to honour their last 16 fixtures, resulting in their disqualification from this year’s tournament.
Rumours of Black Coffee’s interest
There is widespread speculation on social media that internationally acclaimed DJ, Black Coffee, may purchase the team.
However, these are just rumours, and there has been no official confirmation regarding his interest in acquiring the club.
Mam’Mkhize was unavailable for comment on the situation.
