The Gauteng Provincial Government, through the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR), is offering exciting 24-month Learnership Programmes in Library Services. These opportunities are designed for individuals residing in the East Corridor of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, specifically in Kwa-Thema, Tembisa, and Winnie Mandela.
Applications must be submitted using the New Z83 form, fully completed, and submitted to the designated drop-off locations by 30 May 2025. Incomplete or incorrectly submitted applications will not be considered.
Background & Job Description
This Library Services Learnership Programme seeks to empower unemployed youth by equipping them with essential skills in the library and information services field. Learners will be placed in public libraries across the East Corridor and will provide a combination of technical and administrative support. This opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in data collection, digital literacy, and public service.
The Learnership Programme is aligned with the government’s vision of promoting equity in employment, especially for individuals from historically disadvantaged backgrounds, including youth, women, and persons with disabilities.
Tasks
Successful candidates will perform the following duties:
- Provide end-user and technical support in public libraries
- Assist library users with research and accessing the CAPS curriculum
- Offer guidance with job searches and internet usage
- Operate Microsoft Project and CISCO tools
- Oversee gaming room operations and assist with registration management
- Collect and report on library usage statistics and user data
- Deliver customer-focused library and information services
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 Certificate (compulsory)
- A Certificate in ICT or any relevant Tertiary Qualification will serve as an added advantage
- Demonstrated interest in information services or digital literacy fields
Experience
While no prior experience is strictly required, preference will be given to individuals with exposure to:
- Planning and organizational skills
- Problem solving and conflict resolution
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Computer literacy and familiarity with digital tools
- Data collection and reporting
