Former Scandal actress Nomvelo Makhanya (Lindiwe) quits acting and becomes a Dj.

TshisaLIVE reports that Nomvelo Makhanya, the talented actress, has now ventured into the world of music as a DJ. Nomvelo gained quite the reputation for her portrayal of Lindiwe Ngema in e.tv’s soapie Scandal! She bid farewell to the show in 2022 after an impressive nine-year run. She’s gained quite a reputation for her appearances on Soul City and Isibaya.

From Acting to DJing

In a recent interview with TshisaLIVE, she revealed her entry into the DJing world as “Mvelo”. According to her, the desire to make a mark in the music industry has been brewing ever since her time at Soulistic, DJ Black Coffee’s former record label.

“I started with DJing. I was in the studio trying to get my vocals, and I decided to figure things out in the studio, and I started doing DJing classes with Lebza the Villain. I was learning from different people. I was part of Soulistic; it was my management, but I’ve since parted ways with them.” she said.

After nine long years of being recognised solely for her role in Scandal, she has decided to take a well-deserved break from the acting scene.

“It was something I needed to do personally for myself. I needed to release the character by not doing that type of work and focus on music. But I’m back attending auditions. I miss acting, I’m crossing my fingers for something,” she said.

Nomvelo is in good company, joining a roster of South Africa’s most talented personalities turned DJs, including Thuli Mpongolo, Pearl Thusi, and Dineo Ranaka.

The 28-year old expressed her enthusiasm for trying new things and seeing them succeed, as it brings her great motivation.

She finds inspiration in Desiree, a rising star among house DJs in South Africa, renowned for her unique blend of Afrocentric and techno sounds.
