Former Orlando Pirates star Marshall Munetsi is making headlines after signing for English Premier League side Wolves in an R390 million deal that was sealed on the transfer deadline.

Munetsi joins the PSL outfit from France’s Reims on a three-and-a-half-year deal, which includes a 12-month extension option.
Marshall Munetsi was the second transfer deadline signing for Wolves after the club signed Burkina Faso international Nasser Djiga.
With his new contract, he became the most expensive Zimbabwean star after surpassing Tino Kadewere’s €15 million fee to French Ligue 1 side Lyon from second-tier outfit Le Havre in 2020.
Zimbabwe captain Marvellous Nakamba was also involved in a big-money move when he joined Aston Villa from modest Belgian outfit Club Brugge for a deal worth around €12 million.
However, his move to Wolves barely comes a season after signing a contract extension with Reims in 2023.
The former Orlando Pirates star’s contract extension would have kept him at the French Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims until the end of the 2026/27 season.
According to Capology, he was one of the highest-paid stars at Stade de Reims, with a weekly wage of over R276 476 at the time of his contract extension.
CAREER
Like those before him, he started his career at a younger age. However, he had his fair share of headlines after joining Ubuntu Cape Town in 2015.
Surprisingly, he joined the club after failing to impress during the Orlando Pirates trials the same year. The Zimbabwean midfielder joined Baroka FC in 2016 before leaving for Orlando Pirates in 2017.
He was part of the star-studded Orlando Pirates squad that reached the 2018 Telkom Knockout (Carling Knockout) final and finished second in the PSL Premiership twice.
Marshall Munetsi made his Zimbabwe debut in 2018 while playing for Orlando Pirates—one of 23 caps to date.
He made 28 appearances at Orlando Pirates during his two-year stint before joining Stade de Reims in 2019.
Munetsi had a good half-season for Reims after scoring four goals and recording two assists in 19 games
The 28-year-old, who joined Reims in 2019 from Orlando Pirates, made over 150 appearances across all competitions before sealing his move to Wolves.
The former Orlando Pirates star was Reims vice-captain at the start of the 2024/25 season.
