‘Follow your heart’: DJ Sox excited as he jets off to the Netherlands
It’s his passion for music and hard work that have earned him his stripes
Durban Finest’s DJ Sox says it’s passion that has kept him relevant in the music scene.
DJ Sox, whose real name is Mbuso Sokhela, will take part in the Afro Soul Jam event in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, alongside some of South Africa’s top acts, including DJ Merlon, DJ Bongz, Funky Qla and more.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, theĀ UmsindoĀ hitmaker said the amount of work he’s put into his career has cemented his relevancy in the music industry.
āIf you are passionate about what you do, you can do that even when days are dark, which makes one last longer. So I’d advise anyone in any industry to just follow your heart and do what you love, because it’s easier and that’s what’s going to make it relevant for a very long time. If your reason for pursuing what you love is for ulterior motives, you’ll vanish in your respective career and no-one will remember you,ā he said.
DJ Sox is calling on up-and-coming producers to join forces with him as he prepares to release an EP in June.
When asked what his fans in the Netherlands can expect from his set, he said: āPeople should look forward to great Afro-tech and gqom, so it’ll be a great house journey and the set will be full of energy. The Afro Soul Jam is a great highlight of the new year and I will also be performing at Acsa’s Wine and Arts festival, and the Umhlanga Easter festival.ā
