Background & Job Description

First National Bank (FNB), a member of FirstRand Group, is offering an exciting development opportunity through its FirstJob Learner programme. This part-time role is designed for individuals looking to gain practical work experience while simultaneously completing a formal, registered qualification. The goal is to build a pipeline of future professionals who are competent, customer-focused, and business-savvy.

The successful candidate will be embedded within the business and be responsible for fulfilling various operational and administrative functions. Additionally, learners will gain exposure to key banking and financial services activities while developing real-world skills required in today’s dynamic job market.


Tasks

As a FirstJob Learner, you will:

  • Deliver work aligned to predefined work objectives including:
    • Research
    • Administrative support
    • Project assistance
    • Process analysis
  • Fulfil the academic requirements of the registered qualification
  • Participate in additional work-related training sessions
  • Identify and escalate potential operational or cost risks
  • Demonstrate awareness of cost efficiency and financial processes
  • Adhere to organisational values, Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) outcomes, and service standards
  • Address and resolve customer complaints effectively
  • Provide accurate product knowledge and technical advice
  • Ensure compliance with operational quality standards
  • Submit and maintain accurate activity reports
  • Investigate and propose process optimisation strategies
  • Offer suggestions for improvements in systems and service delivery
  • Participate in knowledge sharing and team collaboration
  • Contribute to team goals while respecting diversity and inclusivity
  • Create, implement, and track a personal development plan
  • Commit to ongoing personal and professional improvement

Qualifications

Candidates must be registered or willing to register for a formal, recognised qualification. The qualification should be relevant to the banking or financial services industry.


Experience

No prior experience is necessary. This is an entry-level opportunity aimed at recent graduates or individuals beginning their career journey. However, a passion for customer service, a keen interest in financial services, and a proactive approach to learning are essential.
