Ex-Miss SA takes on the world!
FORMER Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida has taken a huge step.
The 28-year-old former beauty queen has been promoted from the Regional Champion to the Global Champion for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for Women and Girls.
Shudu was the first-ever Regional Champion for East and Mzansi.
Now, she’ll serve the entire world. She shared the news on Instagram and announced her new role.
“Over the past two years, I’ve worked with the UNFPA and witnessed the incredible work done to advance gender equality, sexual and reproductive health, and mental well-being. I’ve travelled across East and Southern Africa, meeting remarkable individuals and hearing powerful stories of resilience and change,” she said.
As a Regional Champion, Shudu advocated for women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive health. Now, as a Global Champion, she’ll focus on ending female genital mutilation (FGM).

“As I take on this role, my first campaign focuses on ending FGM, a harmful practice affecting over 230 million women and girls worldwide. FGM is an act of violence against women, violating their rights, dignity, and bodily autonomy.
“Today, on the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM, we reaffirm our commitment to ending this practice and ensuring every girl grows up free from harm. Despite challenges, I believe in hope, action, and change,” she said.
“For every barrier to progress, there’re dedicated individuals, organisations, activists, and communities fighting for a better future.”
Shudu is currently based in New York, US, where she’s studying Master of International Affairs (MIA) Economic and Political Development at Columbia University.
Ian McFarlane, Director of UNFPA’s Division for External Relations, praised Shudu’s dedication.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Shudu to the UNFPA’s global team. Her energy, passion, and commitment are inspiring. By working together through partnerships, we can achieve far more than we could alone.”
