Ex-Banyana Banyana star RED carded!

FORMER Banyana Banyana captain appears in court.

Amanda Dlamini was arrested in Douglasdale, north of Joburg on Monday, 27 January after she was allegedly caught exceeding the speed limit.

According to a source, Amanda spent a few hours behind bars before she was released.

She made her first appearance in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 29 January and the matter was postponed to Tuesday, 4 February.

However, the 36-year-old Amanda, who is originally from Harding in KZN, told Daily Sun there was no case against her.

“There was chaos there at Douglasdale. There’re always those police who want to be known that they’re in charge, but it was resolved. They asked me for R15 000 for bribery and I did not pay, and I felt like they were scaring me,” she said.

Amanda is a football analyst for SuperSport.

She captained the national team at the 2012 Olympics and was also part of the squad for the 2016 edition. At club level, Amanda played for Durban Ladies and UJ Ladies.

Her senior national team debut came in 2007 during an Olympic qualifier against Nigeria.

Amanda was instrumental in Banyana’s success at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations championship, helping the team secure bronze in 2010 and silver in 2012.

She founded the Amanda Dlamini Girls Foundation, aiming to provide basic help to girls in rural areas.

Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said: “As per the case number you provided, that is a reckless and negligence case, and the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.

“With regard to allegations of bribe, the suspect is urged to lay a formal complaint against the alleged officers so that an investigation into the matter can be conducted.”
