Dr Zweli Mkhize’s sangoma child launches new book
SANGOMA and author Nokulinda Mkhize to launch new book.
Nokulinda is launching her latest book, titled Kitchen Wisdom: What We Hate to Hear But Need to Know About Men and Romance.
The launch event will take place on Saturday, 15 February, at 2pm at Book Circle Capital in Melville, Joburg.
The 40-year-old daughter of former health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize brings traditional wisdom to modern dating in her latest book. She offers a fresh perspective on navigating relationships in a world filled with mixed signals, unrealistic expectations, and fleeting connections.
Talking about her book, Nokulinda said: “This book comes from my 17 years of experience as a sangoma. Many women struggle to balance being successful and longing for a meaningful romantic relationship with a man.”
Nokulinda said the book highlights the confusion many women are faced with.

“Women say ‘amadoda awayekeki’ (men are irresistible), but modern romance causes them pain and heartbreak. This leads to unhealthy compromises to secure a man’s affections.”
Nokulinda stresses that emotions and relationships remain rooted in timeless principles, despite societal evolution.
“Just because we’re modern doesn’t mean our hearts are modern in their feelings,” she said.
Nokulinda believes wisdom passed down through generations still holds value today.
“The advice about men we heard in the kitchen from our mothers and grandmothers remains true. They observed patterns, learned lessons, and emerged wiser,” she said.
The book encourages women to build strong relationships with one another to navigate romance with clarity and support.
“Strong relationships with other women are essential in forming a balanced perspective on love and romance,” Nokulinda said.
With this book, Nokulinda aims to bridge the gap between modern dating and age-old relationship wisdom, guiding women who seek success and fulfillment in their romantic lives.
