DJ Menace says his experience working with Glenzito was on another level
Former Radio 2000 mega mix DJ Menace has been in the music industry for more than 15 years.
DJ Menace, real name Moegamat Ighsaan Osman, is one of Durban’s most popular DJs on the dance music scene.
TshisaLIVE caught up with the DJ to reflect on his journey:
Can you tell us about your experience working with Radio 2000?
Working with the Teddy Bear Glen Lewis was on another level and a big honour. I was given many opportunities to send mixes to his show including the 500th show.
What have you been up to since?
I have been pushing and trying to rebrand myself as a DJ, meaning I reinvent myself to stay relevant in the industry. I keep up with the times but I’ll forever remain old school. I have also been doing a lot of charity work, giving back to the less fortunate.
What has been the highlight of your career?
Highlight of my career is having shared big stages with the who’s who in the industry and, not bringing race into it, but I’m proud to say I’m the only Indian DJ in the line-up and I respect everyone and I love what I do. It’s about the push passion. I also opened the stage for international artist Trey Songz in 2015 at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
What is your take on the state of the music scene in SA, especially with the influx of DJs coming up?
I would say every DJ today wants to imitate other big names and that’s not good. What will make you stand out as a DJ [is] if you have your own style, not every DJ repeat[ing] the same set in one event. Music has evolved but I still stick to my old-school classics, but again as a DJ I have to move with the times so I throw one or two or maybe three or four current tracks in my set.
In one of our interviews, Juelz (From Bangladesh based in SA) had a wish to work with you as he is in the dance music industry. Are you open to work with him?
I have no problem working with anyone so 2025 let’s bring it on. I’m ready to release my own tracks this year. Blessings.
