DJ AirBurn Sounds drops romantic banger ‘Crush Yam’ with MaWhoo, Optimist Music ZA & Boontle RSA

Celebrated DJ and producer AirBurn Sounds is back with a bang as he unveils his much-anticipated new single Crush Yam, set for release next Friday. Teaming up with powerhouse vocalist MaWhoo, alongside Optimist Music ZA and Boontle RSA, this melodic amapiano track promises to strike a chord with fans across the country.

Crush Yam is described as a soothing, heartfelt tune that captures the innocence of infatuation and the bittersweet feeling of unspoken love. With mellow yet playful rhythms, the song blends emotive lyrics with a signature amapiano beat delivering what AirBurn calls “a page from a secret diary”.

“It is a lighthearted, romantic song,” says AirBurn. “It’s almost very poetic amapiano. But also a universal sound for both young and old.”

Driven by an airy guitar riff and a rhythmic, trembling beat, Crush Yam creates a soundscape that’s both danceable and deeply emotional. MaWhoo’s signature vocals bring a feminine softness to the track, perfectly complementing the more grounded male tones from Optimist Music ZA and Boontle RSA.

The collaboration explores the vulnerability and nervous excitement of a crush — the kind of story many listeners will find relatable.

“It’s innocent, explores vulnerability, and is just a fun song,” says MaWhoo, adding that Crush Yam marks a departure from her usual sound.

“Everyone can relate to the song. Everyone has been in love or had a crush they fear talking to,” adds Boontle RSA, describing the track as “fun, playful, and melodic”.

Optimist Music ZA echoes that sentiment: “The making of the song was organic, natural and unforced. This is why the light airiness of the song speaks to everyone.”
