Concert to celebrate Tyla’s growing global presence!
SHOWMAX is making history with its first-ever live-streamed concert.
The show, featuring South African music sensation Tyla, will air on Saturday, 18 January, streaming across 44 African countries.
Daily Sun spoke to Narsi, chief marketing officer for Showmax and MultiChoice South Africa, to get the behind-the-scenes perspective.
Yatish said and Showmax is about “bold, innovative, and deeply connected to our roots”.
Tyla was chosen for this monumental event because of her ability to transcend the music and culture boundaries.
“She’s defining the global stage in her own way, and that’s the kind of spirit we wanted for our first live-streamed concert,” Yatish said.
This collaboration not only celebrates Tyla’s growing global presence but also showcases Showmax’s commitment to elevating African creativity on a large scale.
Preparing for such a large-scale live event comes with its own set of challenges, from managing technical logistics to ensuring platform stability.
“Co-ordinating a live concert for a pan-African audience means managing tech, logistics, and a million moving parts all at once,” she said.
The Showmax team has conducted rigorous platform testing, including provisioning extra server capacity and preparing for spikes in concurrent viewers, to ensure a seamless experience.
The event is not only about streaming a performance but creating a moment that celebrates innovation and the spirit of African entertainment.
The decision to open with Tyla’s concert reflects Showmax’s vision for the future of entertainment in Africa.
“If you’re going to do something for the first time, do it big, and Tyla’s star power was a perfect way to set the tone,” she said.
As the concert prepares to air on Saturday, Showmax is confident this is only the beginning of a new era for live-streamed events on the continent.
“This is a glimpse into what’s possible and Africa’s talent and creativity are unmatched, and this event shows how technology can bring those stories to the continent in a new way.”
