CHIETA Engineering Learnership Programme 2025

The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) is pleased to announce an exciting 12-month Engineering Learnership Programme for 2025. This opportunity is specifically targeted at qualified students from Elangeni TVET College who are looking to gain hands-on experience and further their careers in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.

Applicants must be currently unemployed, not funded by any SETA, and meet the academic requirements outlined below. This programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace readiness by providing practical, real-world experience in the engineering sector.


Background & Job Description
CHIETA’s Engineering Learnership Programme is structured to support the development of future artisans and technicians by combining theoretical studies with experiential learning. This learnership aligns with South Africa’s national skills development goals by empowering youth with employment-ready competencies in the high-demand fields of Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering.

Participants will be assigned to relevant projects and teams where they will contribute meaningfully while gaining exposure to industry standards, safety procedures, and technical operations.


Tasks
Selected learners will be expected to engage in various engineering-related tasks, such as:

  • Assisting in the planning and execution of engineering projects
  • Performing routine maintenance and safety checks on engineering systems
  • Compiling reports and documenting progress under supervision
  • Supporting senior engineers with technical and operational duties
  • Adhering to company safety policies and compliance regulations

Qualifications
To be considered for the CHIETA Learnership Programme, applicants must submit the following:

  • Certified copy of South African Identity Document (ID)
  • Certified copy of Matric (Grade 12) Certificate
  • Certified copies of N4, N5 or N6 Certificates in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
  • Certified Academic Records
  • Affidavit confirming unemployment and that the applicant is not currently funded by any other SETA

Experience
No formal work experience is required to apply for this learnership. However, applicants should demonstrate:

  • A strong academic record in relevant engineering subjects
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a structured work environment
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to completing the 12-month programme
