BREAKING: Jub Jub a free man as State withdraws charges
Jub Jub was facing 13 counts, ranging from multiple counts of rape, assault, attempted murder and kidnapping.
Rapper and TV presenter Jub Jub – real name Molemo Maarohanye — is now a free man.
This comes after the State withdrew the criminal charges against him in a letter dated 20 June.
The Uyajola 9/9 presenter was facing 13 counts, ranging from multiple counts of rape, assault, attempted murder and kidnapping.
RAPE, ATTEMPTED MURDER AND KIDNAPPING CHARGES AGAINST JUB JUB WITHDRAWN
According to the SowetanLIVE, acting deputy director of public prosecution in Joburg, TJ Mbodi said: “After careful perusal of the above mentioned police docket, together with the relevant prosecutors’ report read in conjunction with your representation, this office has decided to withdraw the charges against the accused as there are no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution.”
The letter was confirmed by National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane.
“After consideration of the case docket, the report from the prosecutor and the representations lodged to the director of public prosecution’s office, that office came to a conclusion that there are no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution and the sensible thing to do was to withdraw the charges against Molemo Marrohanye.”
JUB JUB REACTS
Reacting to the withdrawal of the charges against him, the Ndikhokhele hitmaker said he was happy it was all over.
“I feel relieved. The truth always prevails. It is finally over. I can get my life back. I lost a lot. I lost a lot of money, time and respect,” Jub Jub said.
“I was called all sorts of names. I am happy that my family, legal team and everybody else came to support me. I am happy.”
COMPLAINANTS IN THE CASE
In August last year, Jub Jub handed himself over at the Brixton police station where he was granted R10 000 bail.
Some of his bail conditions included not travelling outside the country, hence he handed his passport to the authorities at the time. He was also ordered not communicate with the complainants or attempt to be in contact with them.
There were four complainants in the case, three of which are his ex-girlfriends – actress Amanda; his baby mama and songstress Kelly Khumalo; and Radio and TV host Masechaba Khumalo. The fourth woman is his cousin and singer, Bonukuhle Mtshweni.
According to Sunday World, it was revealed that the state witnesses include Kelly Khuma’s mother, Ntombi Khumalo. Additionally, Masechaba Khumalo’s friend and Du-Pont’s younger sister would also have taken yo the witness stand.
