Beloved Actor Timmy Kwebulana Laid to Rest in Cape Town
Veteran actor Timmy Kwebulana was laid to rest in Cape Town on Saturday, 28 September, after passing away on 19 September following a short illness. The 83-year-old actor’s funeral was held at Langa Civic Hall, where family, friends, and colleagues gathered to bid him a final farewell.
The actor’s son, Mahlubandile Kwebulana, expressed his deep grief during the service, having lost both of his parents within a short period. “I didn’t think that I would be standing here 12 months later, burying the other half of my birth parents. All I can say is that you were a father, a mentor, you were a role model. I know that you didn’t only love and mentor me because I was your son. I’m sure many others here can attest that you were a father, a mentor, and a role model to them,” said Mahlubandile.
During his speech, Mahlubandile urged his siblings to remain united and uphold the values their father instilled in them.
Thabo Mvumvu, from Amarabhela Productions, the company that worked with Kwebulana in his final days, paid tribute to the actor, saying, “He taught a lot of things in a short space of time. I believe that as a top actor, he never received the recognition he deserved.” He added that young actors had learned a great deal from Kwebulana’s wisdom and guidance.
Kwebulana’s brother, Vekele, fondly remembered him as a joyful person who brought excitement whenever he visited their rural home. “He remained humble despite being a top actor. He was a fun man who would crack jokes with everyone, regardless of their age,” Vekele said.
A community elder, Khunjulwa Nderane, echoed similar sentiments, describing Kwebulana as a humble man who treated everyone with respect. “When you meet him on the streets, you would never know that he was a top actor who was always on TV,” she shared.
Timmy Kwebulana’s illustrious career spanned over four decades, featuring in both local and international productions. He appeared in notable films such as *The Heart of the Matter* (1983), *Nag van Vrees* (1986), *Kin* (2000), and *Thys & Trix* (2018).
The veteran actor was laid to rest at Maitland Cemetery. His legacy continues to inspire both fans and aspiring actors alike.
