Londeka, or as her close friends call her, Ndeka, is not just a brilliant actress; she’s also a vibrant personality with a killer sense of style. Seriously, her wig and weave game is on another level! Let’s take a moment to hear her story and get to know the woman behind the character, credit to TrueLove
From eMsinga to Clermont
Londeka hails from eMsinga, a place she proudly mentions as her birthplace. She grew up in Clermont, a township in KZN, where she was raised by her mom, who worked tirelessly as a teacher. “I never miss an opportunity to mention that eMsinga is my birth town because it’s important to always be proud of one’s roots,” she says. Family means everything to her, and with eight siblings (some from different moms), her household was always bustling with love and laughter.
Londeka lost her dad when she was just two years old, but she shares a deep bond with her mom. “She keeps me sane,” she admits. “I know I can pick up the phone anytime I’m feeling angry, frustrated, or stressed, and she’ll have a solution.” Talk about a superhero mom! Even now, Londeka manages her mom’s transport business, juggling it between Joburg and Durban.
The Sporty Side of Londeka
Growing up, Londeka was a sports fanatic! She played everything from netball to soccer and even reached provincial trial level. But like many teens, she found herself drifting away from sports as the allure of social life took over. “There comes a time when having a match on a Saturday afternoon when your peers are out partying becomes uncool,” she chuckles.
The Acting Journey Begins
Londeka’s entry into the acting world was almost serendipitous. In 2016, a friend told her about auditions for a new drama series by Bomb Productions. After a long day of errands, she didn’t even realize her friends had sent her details in for the audition! With nothing to lose, she went for it and landed the role in Isithembiso.
She was studying corporate communications at Varsity College at the time but made the brave decision to drop out and pursue her newfound passion for acting. “Truth be told, what I was studying was merely to have a degree to fall back on,” she admits.
Finding Her Feet in Joburg
Moving to Joburg was a big step for Londeka, and she admits she was nervous about finding her place in the bustling city. “I still visit Durban at every chance I get. If I’m not on set, you’ll find me back home,” she says. This year, she’s making an effort to attend more industry events and connect with new people, all while staying true to herself.
Fame has its perks, but it also comes with its challenges. Londeka has had her fair share of funny moments, especially when fans approach her for selfies, expecting her to be as feisty as S’negugu.
Sisterhood and Support
One of the best pieces of career advice Londeka received came from actor Hamilton Dlamini, who told her to be as authentic as possible. She takes this advice to heart, especially when portraying her character. And speaking of authenticity, her sister, Nelisa Mchunu, is also in the acting game, but there’s no room for sibling rivalry here. “Beyond being sisters, we’re great friends and continue supporting each other’s dreams,” she shares.
Londeka has also found a sisterhood in the industry, especially with her on-screen bestie, Farieda Metsileng. “You’d swear we’ve known each other for decades,” she laughs.
Keeping It Real
In a world where drama can be all-consuming, Londeka prefers to keep her circle small. “I generally don’t like drama,” she admits, even if she comes across as loud and lively. And when it comes to celebrity crushes? She’s all about Nomalanga Shozi and Nomzamo Mbatha, whom she describes as sexy, humble, and full of an indescribable aura.
So there you have it! Londeka is not only a talented actress but also a grounded and relatable person who values family, friendship, and authenticity. Keep an eye on her as she continues to shine on your screens and in the industry. Who knows what exciting adventures lie ahead for this rising star?
