2024 Nominees Announced for South Africa’s National Film & TV Awards

The NFTA unveiled nominations, recognising their performances in ‘Savage Beauty,’ ‘Heart of the Hunter’, and ‘Blood and Water’.

The highly anticipated nominations for the 2nd annual National Film & TV Awards South Africa (NFTA) have been revealed.

The prestigious awards celebrate the finest achievements in local film and television. This year’s event set to take place at Pretoria’s Opera Theatre on 9 November 2024.

NATIONAL FILM AND TELEVISION AWARDS RETURNS

Over 1.7 million public submissions flooded in during the nomination period. This shows just how much South Africans value their local talent.

The NFTA, organised by the National Film Academy, allows the public to have the final say on who takes home the awards, according to The Citizen.

Voting is now open on Telephonos, a social media platform where fans can register and cast their votes.

NATIONAL FILM AND TELEVISION AWARDS VOTING

The process closes on 26 October 2024, and fans can expect a thrilling competition.

“Sara Kensington said South African film and television have long reflected the nation’s rich cultural tapestry.”

Sara is the Global Partnerships Director at the National Film Academy.

“We are excited to celebrate this talent on a global stage.”

The National Film Academy has a 26-year history of recognising excellence in film and TV, according to IOL.

NATIONAL FILM AND TELEVISION AWARDS AND THE RISING STARS OF SA

Their aim is to bring South African talent to the world.

This year’s theme, ‘Connecting South Africa to the World through Film and Television,’ is all about showcasing the country’s rich storytelling on a global scale.

With nominees ranging from beloved household names to rising stars.

The 2024 awards promise a spectacular celebration of South African creativity and innovation, according to Biz Community.

 

BEST ACTRESS

The Best Actress category sees fierce competition. Nambitha Ben-Mazwi, Connie Ferguson, and Ama Qamata headline the list.

They earned nominations for their performances in Savage Beauty, Heart of the Hunter, and Blood and Water, respectively.

Kwanele Mthetwa, star of Lobola Man, also joins the race. This adds an exciting new dynamic to the category.

BEST ACTOR

In the Best Actor category, Empini’s Siyabonga Twala is up against Lawrence Maleka, who dazzled in Lobola Man.

Rising stars like Lunga Shabalala from A Soweto Love Story will battle seasoned veterans, promising a night of unforgettable moments.

Television shows like Savage Beauty, Blood and Water, and House of Zwide lead the nominations for Best TV Drama Series.

GRIPPING STORYLINES

These fan-favourites have captivated audiences with their gripping storylines and incredible performances.

South Africa’s Next Superstar, a nationwide talent search, was launched by the NFTA this year.

Sponsored by Nu Metro Cinemas and Voovix TV, the search promises to uncover fresh talent for a new film project.

Winners will be flown to London for an all-expenses-paid trip and sign a contract with Bank Republic.

ACTORS AND FILMMAKERS

This initiative is set to catapult the careers of the country’s next generation of actors and filmmakers.

The event will be broadcast in 15 countries, and streamed live on Voovix TV.

This partnership will bring South African talent into living rooms across Europe and beyond.

It further cements the country’s reputation as a powerhouse of creativity.

The National Film & TV Awards South Africa are a showcase of the country’s incredible talent.

With public voting still open, there’s plenty of time for fans to make their voices heard.
