10 Interesting Facts About Harriet Manamela (Meikie Maputla) from Skeem Saam. Hate her or love her, Meikie Maputla is the reason many people watch Skeem Saam every weekday. Harriet Manamela is the only one who can play the feisty persona.

Harriet Manamela was born on October 13, 1971, in Diepkloof, South Africa.

She graduated from Boksburg’s St. Anthony’s Centre. Squints Artists Community Theatre Group in Alexandra; The Virus and Let’s Talk About Aids at The Market Theatre Laboratory Annual Festival.

She appeared in Broken Dreams with The Market Theatre Laboratory drama school, in Theatre Sports for SABC3, and toured Sweden with Gommorah, Koze Kuse Bash, Ways of Dying, and Bozoli at The Market Theatre and The Grahamstown Arts Festival.

The award-winning actress began her television career with Soul City, Isidingo, Yizo Yizo II, Justice For All II & III, Zero Tolerance, Soul Buddyz, and Behind The Badge in 1998.

She is most known for her role as “Meikie Maputla” in the SABC 1 soap Skeem Saam.

Meikie is an entrepreneur who works at the Maputla grocery for her spouse. She is very protective of her children and will go to any length to ensure their safety. She lied, tormented her daughter-in-law, and even shot and killed the guy who was holding her family captive.

In 2012 Manamela scooped a SAFTA for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film ‘Life Above All’ and was later nominated in the Vita awards for Best Supporting Actress, for her role in a then popular Soapie.

In 2013 she joined the e.tv soapie Rhythm City in the role of Nomzamo, Suffocate’s alcoholic mother who has been drinking heavily for decades and uses alcohol as a coping mechanism.

The films that she has starred in include Dr Lucille, Hijack Stories, Country of My Skull and Yesterday. She also played the lead in ‘My Other Mother’.

Manamela has been divorced for over 20 years. Her marriage lasted for six years and she has three children with her ex husband.
